Nursing Scholarship
The Department of Illinois Daughters of the Union Veterans, 1861-1865, (DUVCW) offers an annual Nursing Scholarship to a qualified applicant. The Illinois Department DUVCW Nursing Scholarship (hereafter referred to as “DUVCW Scholarship”) shall be three hundred dollars ($300.00) to an individual winner. The requirements to apply for this scholarship are as follows:

The applicant must be a United States Citizen of good moral character and must have a firm
belief in our form of government.

Must be a resident of the State of Illinois or descendent of Department of Illinois DUVCW
member (living or deceased) in good standing.

He or she must be a direct lineal descendant of a Union Veteran and provide proof of descent and proof of the veteran’s service.

Must be currently enrolled in a nursing program or health related field, such as physical therapist, LPN or other related medical occupation or show proof of acceptance for upcoming semester of study.

Must have and maintain a satisfactory scholastic standing.
Submit of a Letter of Application of 1,000 words or less, setting forth his/her career objective.
The Letter should include extra-curricular activities, volunteer and community service
rendered, honors received and scholastic achievements. The completed letter of
application should be typed or computer generated, double spaced in 12 point font.

Submit two letters of recommendation from high school or college instructors with the letter of
application. Letters of recommendation should cover the applicant’s ability, work habits, integrity,
character, potential and volunteer activities.
Applications should be received no later than February 1 of each year and the winner will be
announced and notified by May 1 of each year.
